There are many ancient healing methods which are
based on the transfer of a universal, all-pervading life energy. This
same energy brings forth all life in the universe, and nourishes it.
The
Tibetan, Chinese, Indian, Egyptian, Greek, and Roman cultures have had
a deep understanding of the nature of spirit, energy, and matter for
thousands of years. They have used this knowledge to heal their bodies
and souls, and to have their spirits attain oneness.
Very
few people were knowledgeable of this art. Schools of most old cultures
guarded and preserved this information, usually only divulging it to
priests or spiritual leaders, who passed it on to their initiates
through word of mouth.
Reiki is one of these
ancient arts. The knowledge of Reiki would have been lost forever had
not Dr. Mikao Usui rediscovered the key in the mid 1800's which led him
on a quest to discover the 1000 year old tradition of healing.
The
word Reiki means Universal Life Energy. It is defined as being that
power which acts and lives in all created matter.
Reiki
is not a religion. It follows the universal laws of consciousness, and
love. No matter where the person may be in life, reiki will harmonize
and embrace their philosophical centerpoint, adding to it the divine
presence. As one becomes attuned to reiki through a series of
initiations, one links permanently to the energy without the need of
conscious alteration of the mind, either through meditation, or prayer.
By placing one's hands on oneself, or another
person, this allows the energy to flow through the individual. Reiki
energy comes from the God-force, as an extremely powerful healing
energy, and is one of the few forms of healing that can be used to heal
oneself. It does not interfere with traditional medical treatments, and
facilitates benefits.
Reiki speeds the healing
process, and provides a method of restoring energy when one is ill,
undergoing medical treatment, or is in recovery.
Reiki
healing is a pure energy form. When it is combined with the sincere
desire of a healer who is willing to bring about a cleansing within a
person's emotional and spiritual consciousness, a total healing can
occur.
The Reiki practitioner becomes a
channel for this energy and must not allow the ego to interfere, and
desire the recipient well. He or she must act as a clear vessel through
which the healing energy may flow. This allows the highest soul purpose
to be the outcome of the healing.
Reiki is a
powerful tool for use at anytime, or anywhere, for on-the-spot stress
relief, pain relief, and as an energy boost. It is a holistic,
self-help technique for directing and utilizing the natural life
energy. No special environment, or equipment is needed. Age is
unimportant. By following the steps taught by a trained Reiki
Master/teacher, anyone is able to direct the light energy of reiki to
meet the individual needs.
Reiki supports the
body's natural ability to heal itself, revitalizes the body and soul,
cleanses the body of poisons, works on animals and plants, adjusts
itself according to the present needs of the recipient, loosens up
blocked energy, balances the body's energies, re-establishes spiritual
equilibrium and mental well-being, functions on all levels (physical,
mental, emotional, spiritual), and best of all, is extremely pleasant.
There
are three levels of reiki, and each level increases your power and
ability. Generally, after each level there is a 21 day cleansing
period, during which old patterns, and toxins will come to the surface
for release. Most reiki masters will advise their students to get used
to the energy before advancing to the next level.
At
one time there were only 22 Reiki Masters in the world. Now, as reiki
grows in importance, there are many masters. These individuals dedicate
and commit themselves to living and perpetuating this universal life
force of reiki. Masters are dedicated to healing themselves, and aiding
in the harmony and balance of the universe. They also assist others
with the means of balancing the body, mind, and soul.
